Quietly,
Madison-Grant put together a tremendous 09’ season and claimed a portion of the
CIC title. The Argyles finished the regular campaign 20-5 and went 6-1 in
conference play. That earned them a split decision with Frankton who also lost
only once inside the CIC and went 14-6 overall.
Highly
regarded Blackford and Alexandria finished one game behind in the league race
at 5=2. Mississinewa had trouble hitting stride during the season. The Indians
ended fifth with a 3-4 conference slate of 3-4. Both Eastbrook and Oak Hill
struggled to 2-5 conference records and Elwood failed to win a league contest.
The 600lb.
gorilla was loose and playing in the CIC again this spring. A state finalist
one year ago, the Elwood Panthers roared through their conference schedule to
claim the CIC crown again this season. They finished the campaign 7-0 in league
play and 19-3 overall headed into the tourney.
Oak Hill
emerged from the pack to take second in the conference chase with a 5-2 record.
The Golden Eagles are 15-7 overall for the regular season. Blackford took third
with a 4-3 league slate.
Behind the
top three squads, things got very jumbled. Eastbrook, Madison-Grant, and
Alexandria tied for fourth in the race with 3-4 conference records while
Mississinewa and Frankton closed the CIC campaign with marks of 1-6.
Eastbrook
and Oak Hill split top honors at the annual CIC Track and Field Meet. Eastbrook
took the title in the girl’s competition with a score of 158.5. That was three
points better than the Golden Eagles who finished second. Blackford was third
in the competition with a total of 88.5. The crown came down to the last event.
Eastbrook entered the 4 X 400 relay with a one point lead. Fittingly, the
Panthers won that event with Oak Hill running a close second.
The Golden
Eagles prevailed in the boy’s competition. They took the crown with a total of
168 points. Eastbrook was second with 141 and Blackford again finished third
with 126 points. Here is a look at the final team standings on each side of the
meet and all of the individual results.
Mississinewa edged Oak Hill by a scant two strokes to claim
the CIC golf title Saturday at Yule GC in Alexandria. The Indians shot a team
total of 324 to better the 326 of the Golden Eagles. Eastbrook was third with
340 and Frankton rounded out the upper division with a score of 355.
Zach Kitch of Oak Hill took medalist honors with
a fine 76. Devin McVickers of Mississinewa was just one shot back at 77, and
Stephan Perkey of Frankton was third with a 78. Here is a look at the complete
scoring in the tournament
Perhaps it
never is, but the sectional draw was not overly kind to CIC teams. It includes
two head-to-head match-ups between league teams. Here is a quick look at how
the squads fared.
In 3A at
Blackford, the host Bruins share the favorite mantle with Mississinewa.
Blackford drew CIC rival Eastbrook in the opening game of the tourney.
Mississinewa drew Delta in the bye round. The advantage here is clearly with
the Indians. They would not see Blackford until the final and will have less
stress on the pitching staff.
Madison-Grant
got much the better of it at Eastern. M-G opens action versus Tipton. The other
CIC entrant, Oak Hill, received the unenviable task of chopping down the host
Comets. That is never an easy task. Madison-Grant also drew into the other half
of the bracket and would not see either of those two squads until the final.
Frankton and
Elwood is the other head-to-head CIC first round match-up. That will take place
at the Frankton Sectional. Alexandria will play the winner if the Tigers can
get past Lapel. The other power in the field, Wapahani, drew into the bye round
